My Simple Night Time Make Up Removal and Skin Care Routine

Life is busy and having pamper nights is great, but I don’t think a multi-step high-end skincare is necessary, so let me share with you my daily cost-friendly evening skincare routine!

Curious about my morning routine? I wrote a blog on that, you can read it here!

MY SKIN STORY

Throughout the years my skin has constantly been breaking out and there’s a lot of redness from previous breakouts. Just when it starts to clear up and it’s all going well, BAM it lets me down and breaks out. It’s a constant battle and I’m just trying to find what works and build up my confidence when it comes to being bare-faced. Below are some shots of my skin recently and this is at some of its best. The state of my skin fluctuates a lot and I like where it is now but I need to work on improving it. Having a skincare routine that I stick to is important to me and what I’ve been getting better at is touching my skin less. There’s no need to constantly touch your skin and pick at it (note to self), take care of it and let it be.

I shared my morning routine in a previous blog and you can read that here. Now, as for my nighttime routine, it’s as quick as my morning routine unless I’m taking makeup off which adds a few extra steps.

Okay, on with the routine

  1. I use cotton rounds and micellar water, and I'm currently using the L’Oreal Micellar Cleansing Water but I’ve used the Simple, Nivea, and Garnier ones in the past and they’re all the same to me.

  2. After about 5-10 cotton pads, depending on how much makeup I used that day/night, I go in with an oil cleanser and I’m finishing up a bottle of Palmer's Coca Butter Skin Therapy Cleansing Oil at the moment. Next up, I purchased the Neutrogena Cleansing Oil because I heard good things about it from Susan Yara from Mixed MakeUp on YouTube. I pump some of the cleansing oil in my hands, lather it on my skin and massage it in. This is a gentle process, you don’t want to be aggressive with your skin. I find cleansing oils gentle and soothing and what actually removes the makeup. The makeup removing wipes only irritate my skin and don’t get the job done alone, and the micellar water is a lot more gentle but it doesn’t finish the job either. After about a minute of massaging the oil in, I wash my face and pat it try.

  3. The skincare continues in the shower where I cleanse my skin. I’m finishing up my 5th bottle of the Nivea Purifying Facewash. It’s gentle, it scrubs a little but it’s not rough on my skin. Next up I’m giving the Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser a shot because I’ve heard great things about it. Overall, the Cetaphil products are basic and they get the job done and I think they’re dermatologist recommended for a reason.

  4. I use the Cetaphil eye cream because I find that it’s very hydrating.

  5. Afterward, I go in with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid the same one that I use in the morning. I don’t always use this at night but usually, I like to.

  6. I wait for the Hyaluronic Acid to dry before I use The Ordinary Niacinamide . Once I pat this in I wait for it to set into my skin and usually this is when I get into my PJs, clean around my room a bit, and go on my phone.

  7. Before I moisturize and carry on with the last step, I wash my hands because I had just touched a bunch of things and I’m not about to use my germy phone hands on my freshly washed skin. Note that!! Make sure your hands are clean before applying makeup and skincare. I finish off by adding a few drops of The Ordinary Squalane to the same Cetaphil Fragrance Free Moisturizer that I use in the morning. Once I use up the squalene, I re-purchased The Ordinary Rose Hip Oil for when I'm out of the squalane because I used it once, liked it, but don't remember much and I want to give it another shot. I love feeling like a greaseball before I go to bed so I love using a moisturizer and an oil and lathering that on my skin.

To recap here are the products that I use every day:

Thanks for coming to my skincare ted talk!

All the products I use are quite simple and with clean ingredients and they're almost all one brand so it’s easy to buy and they’re all very affordable. If you have any ride-or-die skincare products please share them with me!

Until next time, read my morning skincare routine, take your make-up off every night and be gentle with your skin!
